This world premiere new musical reveals the story of a small folkloric Afro-Caribbean band that emerged from a remote village in Latin America, capturing the world’s imagination with their unique sound.

Betsayda Machado and Parranda El Clavo come from an impoverished rural area of Venezuela, one of the most dangerous places on earth today. For 30 years, they have performed exclusively in the homes of neighbors and in the square of their small town. And then... something happened.

Their vocal drum music caught the world's attention when their rudimentary album (recorded under a mango tree!) was named Album of the Year by The New York Times. Then they toured theaters like Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and some of the most prestigious places in the world.

This parranda presents a play that is the result of more than 500 hours of interviews about the lives of the members of this musical group in the town of El Clavo, Barlovento.

An immersive theatrical event that celebrate the contagious beats of Venezuelan soul through stories and songs sharing real-life struggles and triumphs.

Cultivated through centuries of African tradition, the percussion and vocal ensemble’s repertoire inspires and energizes with the irrepressible desire of a people longing for freedom.
